Ch. 10
by xionghuanMy wolf was practically purring in the back of my mind at the feeling of having our mate back in our arms.
Waking up without my little mate and her scent already fading sent me into a panic. I’d never felt anything like that before, it was like my heart was being torn from my chest and my lungs were filling up with water.
My wolf took over, pushing through the barrier in my mind and forcing us to shift right away. I’m sure that Silas was having fun cleaning up my mess and explaining why I shifted and left all of a sudden, especially since he wasn’t allowed to tell anyone that I had found my mate just yet.
But I couldn’t care less about that right now.
I wouldn’t be able to rest until we were back in my pack, with my mate safely in my arms and out of harm’s reach. And with my growing suspicions, I was afraid that keeping my mate safe wouldn’t be easy.
“I arranged for one of the omegas from my pack to help you bathe and get ready while I’m in meetings,” I told her, lightly ghosting the tips of my fingers up and down her spine. “I’ve already had them set aside some clothes for you to wear.”
I grimaced at the uniform she was wearing now. “My mate deserves nothing but the best.”
I could hear my perfect little mate’s heart pick up and start to beat faster at my words. “Oh,” she squeaked out. “It’s really fine Ki-Ambrose. You don’t have to.”
“I want to.” The words tumbled from my mouth right away. “Please, let me take care of you.”
Now I was the one blushing while begging my mate to let me take care of her.
“Ok,” she agreed softly.
I knocked lightly on Madam Olympia’s office door.
With her advanced werewolf hearing and smell, I’m sure that she knew I was coming even before I was a few feet away.
But I was coming up here as my little one’s mate, not as the Alpha King, I reminded myself.
“Come in.” Madam Olympia’s voice rang through the door.
I wasted no time opening the wooden door and quickly slipping inside, wanting to be seen as little as possible.
I locked the office door behind me and straightened my back, standing to my full height as I stared down at the wolf who had caused my mate so much pain and suffering.
Remember, my wolf practically snarled at me in my mind. We’re here for our mate. We need to get answers now, and only after we have everything that we need can we seek revenge on every single wolf who has caused our little mate pain.
“Alpha King,” she gasped, immediately bearing her neck towards me to show respect.
“There’s no need for that,” I said. “I’m here in a less formal manner.”
I could see Madam Olympia tense at my words before she raised her head back up and motioned for me to take a seat.
I dropped into the open chair in front of her desk but didn’t make a move to speak yet.
“I can mind link the Alpha and have him meet us here.” She glanced around her office nervously, avoiding my gaze.
“There’s no need for that,” I said as calmly as I could. “I didn’t come here to speak with your Alpha, I just have a few quick questions for you.”
I did my best to smile and keep my wolf at bay. “It is Madam Olympia, right?” I cocked an eyebrow at her.
I didn’t need to be a werewolf right now to hear how wildly her heart was beating at my words.
Madam Olympia cleared her throat roughly before answering.
“Yes,” she coughed. “Yes, that’s right. But I’m afraid that I won’t be able to help you much, Your Highness. I only look after the pack omegas. You’d be much better talking to our Alpha, or—”
“Like I said,” I cut her off. “There’s no need for you to mind link your Alpha right now. What I have to ask you can help me with just fine, I’m sure of it.”
For being my voice of reason only a few moments ago, my wolf was now clawing at the barrier in my mind, demanding to be let out so that he could ask this sorry excuse of a she-wolf questions about our little mate.
“I’ll do my very best to answer all of your questions, Your Highness.” The tight-lipped smile across her lips was telling me that she’d rather be anywhere but sitting down with me right now.
“I need all the information you have on your pack omegas,” I said right away, not wanting to beat around the bush. I was craving the feeling of my little mate pressed up against me. “I’ve never seen a pack refer to their omegas by numbers instead of names.”
Madam Olympia clasped her own hands tightly on the desk separating us. “I’m afraid I can’t provide you with many details, Your Highness. You see, almost all our omega servants were given to The Blood Moon Pack as mere cubs, abandoned by their families, who didn’t want them anymore. So of course, none of them have names. When our pack takes these young wolves in, we give them each a number to be called by.”
I could feel my claws start to slip out of my fingers and scratch the wooden chair I was sitting on.
Rip her to shreds! my wolf yelled out in my mind. Rip every single wolf in this pack to shreds! They’ve all been taking advantage of our mate.
“You mean to tell me”—dark, black hair began to sprout down my arms and across my back—”that you call taking these omegas in and giving them no name, just a number to be called by, and working them ragged every single day is the Blood Moon Pack being ‘kind’?” I spit the last word out, venom dripping from my mouth.
“The Blood Moon Pack is not the only one that does this,” Madam Olympia tried defending herself. “Countless other packs across the land do this as well. We all take in the unwanted and give them a home.”
“A home?” I repeated the word. “What you give these omegas is no home. It’s misery.”
I could feel my feet begin to shift in my shoes, my toes curling inwards as my bones started to shift and break with her every word.
“This has been the standard across the land for centuries, Your Highness. I’m failing to see why the way that lowly omegas are treated now matters—”
She stopped herself midsentence, her jaw falling slack and her eyes going wide as she stared at me.
“So she… she really is your mate,” she whispered, the words filling up the small office. “Seven is your mate.”
“Don’t call her that!” I roared out, the need to protect my little mate overtaking every other sense inside of me. “Never call her by that number again.”
Madam Olympia’s eyes were as wide as saucers as she took me in.
“I never thought that it would happen,” she said in a rushed whisper. “She was meant to stay hidden here, hidden and safe…” Her voice fell off as she finally seemed to realize what she was saying.
Safe? Our mate has never once in her life been safe in this pack! my wolf yelled in my mind. Our little mate is covered in nothing but injuries and scars!
“Your Highness, I apologize for the mistreatment of your mate,” she said slowly, making sure to properly say every word. “I never thought, I mean, no one in this pack ever thought that an omega would be your mate.”
Her sorry excuse of an apology did little to calm my raging wolf, but the mere mention of my little mate was enough to distract my wolf and shove him back so I could gain control over myself.
“What can you tell me about how she came to be in the Blood Moon Pack?” I didn’t bother to acknowledge her previous words, too caught up in learning all that I could about my little mate and getting back to her right away.
“I’m afraid that I don’t have much to tell you about how she came to join the pack, Your Highness. Only that Sev—I mean, she—was left near the east border as nothing more than a young cub wrapped tightly in a thin sheet. One of the wolves on patrol found her and brought her back to the pack house. She’s been with us ever since.”
She was just left at the border? The person that left her hadn’t even bothered to bring her to the pack house? How long was she out there for before being found? They didn’t find any trace of a scent?
My mind swirled with unanswered questions.
Madam Olympia rubbed her hands together nervously. To any other wolf, I’m sure that they wouldn’t have thought twice about what they were being told, but as the Alpha King, my senses were sharper than others.
I could tell that she was hiding something from me.
“Do you still have the cloth you found her wrapped in at the border?”
Her eyebrows shot up at my question.
“No,” she said right away. “It was thrown away after she was brought to the pack house.”
“Jasper!” I snapped through our mind link. “I need you to find out everything that you can on the Blood Moon Pack and how they treat their omegas.”
“On it, Alpha,” he answered almost instantly.
My eyes narrowed as I looked at Madam Olympia, trying to figure out what she was hiding from me. It was clear from the way she was talking and avoiding eye contact that she was holding back information.
I narrowed my eyes at her before forcing a fake smile over my lips. “Thank you for your help.”
I didn’t wait for her response before standing up and walking out of her office.
If she wouldn’t tell me the truth, I would find it out another way.
